How others see things

July 14, 2008 at 5:33 pm | In Personal, Thoughts, whatever | Leave a Comment

I think that sometimes I may have thought too much in terms of me, myself and I and may have neglected to think in terms of how others may view it.. and to bring their point to converge with the point that I see…

By seeing their point, you will be able to learn things that may be a blindspot for you or it will be easier to let them understand your point by explaining things in terms of their point…

This is something that has to be worked on.

Criticism should firstly be taken in a constructive light, no matter how bad it may seem, and not to be defensive first. That would be how you can see things from their point of view.

Reached the void deck and saw my dismantled bed lying there, and seriously, my heart skipped a beat. When I reached home, the piano was gone, in its place were boxes of stuff to move to jurong. A treasure gone. I didn’t really dare to open my room, afraid of what I’ll be seeing. Whew. It’s my sis’ bed there and I have a place to sleep, which is pleasantly unexpected. But my nose was uncomfortable as my room is currently quite dusty.

Do I have a Jurong face? I used to think that people who live in Serangoon will have a Serangoon type of face and it never crossed my mind that my face could change from a Serangoon face to a Jurong one. I prefer to have a Serangoon face. There was once I had an Aljunied face too. Whatever. Just stressed up. LOL.

KFC kid’s birthday party

July 13, 2008 at 9:26 am | In whatever | Leave a Comment

5.26 pm actually.

For parents looking for a good birthday party for their children, can try KFC at compass point.

I was sitting beside the closed up section trying to work on my assignments, and the party host from KFC is quite good in making the children do something like a cheer leading thing and the Chicky mascot even came out to play with them. They did the chicky dance and the children seem super happy. HAHAHA. Kids are just so spontaneous and natural in expressing themselves. Whereas adults have to think twice before saying things. Which is good too.

Now back to working on my assignments. I better focus.

The Serangoon (Study places)

July 10, 2008 at 4:45 am | In whatever | Leave a Comment

I was just looking up regarding the best places to study in Singapore, and I tried calling up the Community Centre near my house for the study rooms.

You will need to have a PA card (membership card) which costs $10, for three years. And also to use the rooms you will have to pay $12 per year. Sounds good? But the thing is, there are no electric sockets for laptops. The person said something like, “Not allowed.” . Haha, so scrape the whole idea.

NLB is still the best. Free, got water cooler, got coffeeshops nearby, quiet and got lockers too. But it’s just the travelling that matters. But studying there is more productive compared to being at home or anywhere else.

The thing about NLB is, you are prone to meet people you know there. I’ve met like 5 of my friends over there recently. :)

Don’t underestimate your ability to stop doing things that you hate

Your value is far above jewels

Have you seen your own value yet?

Resist the Devil and it will flee from you.

Resist with all your strength.

Fireworks

I’m now at level 7 of NLB..  8pm here

Typing for my assignments, then there were some loud booming sounds.

Wow, fireworks!!

Quite beautiful.

I’m quite stunned by the sudden display.

I wonder.. is Singapore really so rich? To just test a few fireworks like that?

Art Nouveau fad..

Good old vintage cartoons..

I have also come to realise that teaching a small child about values and important concepts is not easy, needs to have stories for them to understand and catch the point..

Cherubs

May 29, 2008 at 4:23 pm | In whatever | Leave a Comment

Art nouveau … is something that I’m quite into for my- our new room deco.  I think it’s because when I’m very small, the piano lesson room has a big picture that looks like these cherubs and I would keep looking at it while waiting for my turn.

Perhaps inspired by Solomon’s temple— that has cherubs and pomegranates..

Inspired..

I’ve deleted the pictures of the cherubs, because I just found out that the cherubims mentioned in the bible are not babies with small wings…

Good evening artesacra-ga and thank you for the question.

Cherubs (Cherubim) are the second highest Order of Angels (the first
being Archangels). In the Throne Room they were said to stand next to
the Throne of God.

Cherubs are the first Angels mentioned in the Bible when two Cherubs
are placed by God to guard the gates to Eden with Flaming Swords.

Genesis 3:24: "He drove out the man; and at the east of the Garden of
Eden He placed the Cherubim, and a Flaming Sword which turned every
way, to guard the way to the Tree of Life."

Ezekiel 10:14: “And every one had four faces: the first face was the
face of a cherub, and the second face was the face of a man, and the
third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.”

They were not described as the cute little "cupid like" Angels
depicted by painters, but instead as having four wings. (Ezekiel
10:21). They also combined features of these four creatures; the
stature and hands of a man, the hooved feet of a calf and the two
pairs of wings. Two of the wings extended upward, meeting above and
sustaining the throne of God; while the other two stretched downward
and covered the creatures themselves. They never turned, but went
"straight forward" as the wheels of the cherubic chariot, and they
were full of eyes "like burning coals of fire" (Ezekiel 1:5- 28; 9:3,
10, 11:22).

They were also mentioned in the 2nd book of Chronicles where the King
Solomon decorates the Temple with the images of cherubs.

2 Chron 3:10: "And in the most holy house he made two cherubims of
image work, and overlaid them with gold."

Figures of golden cherubs with outstretched wings were on the lid of
the Ark of the Covenant, and carved engravings of cherubs were on the
walls of the Temple's inner and outer sanctuaries.

Drawings of winged creatures appear on Mesopotamian stone tablets
starting around 4000 BC. In paintings, they usually accompanied any
of the Holy Trinity, as well as the Madonna.

Many today envision cherubs to be naked little children with halos and
wings (think Valetine's Day cards). These representations arose in
Renaissance times (see Raphael's Sistine Madonna at (
http://www.eyeconart.net/history/Renaissance/sistine_madonna.htm )
and are based on still earlier representations found in Roman art
forms and late Christian art. Some art historians believe Christians
adopted the image of the winged dawn goddess Aurora or Eos to
represent angels.

Another interpretation of the nakedness of cherubs:

“...Before the sin of Adam and Eve, the cherubs were unnecessary; they
appear only as a result of the sin. Perhaps we may draw the following
conclusion - the cherubs represent none other than Adam and Eve
themselves, young and innocent and naked in the Garden of Eden...”

Cherubs are often confused with Putti. Putti comes from the Latin,
putus, meaning "little man”. They are spiritual beings and thus
depicted as winged little people. Years later, they were being
depicted the same way. Which one they were, simply depended upon the
theme of the painting or sculpture:

If religious (sacred) -- they were Cherubs.
If secular or mythic (profane) -- they were Putti.

I hope this answers your question. If you would like clarification
before rating my answer, please do not hesitate to ask!

Art Noveau tracings

:)

For the room. These are quite small, thinking of making more of these motifs below the room windowsill.. or something. Very easy to trace, haha, less than 10 minutes… I’m nuts at drawing.

Jigsaw

May 20, 2008 at 3:37 pm | In whatever | 4 Comments

Passed by a big jigsaw puzzle shop while out with my friends just now… and I’m really keen to get an artistic one to do with my sis for our new “Mongy and Nana” room. Haha whatever.

My friend recommended the “Judgment Day” Jigsaw, but it was not available there. But I saw other paintings by Leonardo da Vinci which would look great… the one with the angel outside a porch pointing towards a woman with a book, the last supper, mona lisa …

But I’m also rather attracted to the Hello Kitty shiny reflective jigsaw which will be too cutesy for my sis.

There are also the 3D ones that will make up a sphere… I would choose the world-globe one but it’s quite ex.

Those that will glow in the dark will look nice too.. if only they can have glow-in-the-dark last supper, atomic bomb,  or mona lisa… that would be so cool.

She’s great in filling the parts of the jigsaw, whereas I’m okay with finding the borders first… heheh.

Quite cheap too.

But mathematical puzzles like the “eternity solution” are good for the brain too. My brain is getting rusty. Help!!

Ball pool for kids @ Tampines

April 19, 2008 at 10:55 am | In whatever | Leave a Comment

I was watching the news just now when they were reporting on the ball pool @ Tampines for the kids.

It is one of those huge playgrounds, a fantasy land for kids, filled up with balls.. I’m sure everyone has at least tried it once during their childhood. If you haven’t, well, I’m just sad for you.

lol.

They were reporting on how much billion and gazilion of bacteria the ball pool has, even more dirty than currency notes. My first thought was : Ewe… Hand, mouth foot disease– enterovirus. Yuck.

They were reporting on how they would disinfect the hands of each child before the child goes through the entrance.

And they would not allow any kid who is sick inside. The ball pool will be cleaned up every monday.

But gosh. It is quite a disturbing thought. Kids drool, spit, play with their nostrils, pee and do all sorts of things when they are bored or just there at the right place and time. And they only clean the pool once a week? Although they do clean up the tables and chairs every three hours.. Honestly and sincerely.. I feel that it is still very dirty.

But it’s some plain old dirty fun. Back in the good old days, hand-mouth-foot disease is so unheard of.

Sometimes I just wish that there are no bacteria and viruses. It would make my job ( at work) a lot more easier. But they have their purpose too.. ever since Adam and Eve….

From wiki:

Seven main types of Foot and Mouth Virus are believed to exist[10]. Like other viruses, the FMD virus continually evolves and mutates, thus one of the difficulties in vaccinating against FMD is the huge variation between and even within serotypes. There is no cross-protection between serotypes (meaning that a vaccine for one serotype won’t protect against any others) and in addition, two strains within a given serotype may have nucleotide sequences that differ by as much as 30% for a given gene. This means that FMD vaccines must be highly specific to the strain involved. Vaccination only provides temporary immunity that lasts from months to years.

Last time our playgrounds have sand not those boring insulated floorings. I prefer sand if I’m a kid. And I would still pester my parents to bring me to those ball pools. All said, the ball pool is still drool worthy for the kids.

Today is an important day

April 16, 2008 at 12:05 am | In Personal, Weird dreams, whatever | Leave a Comment

Today is an important day because I woke up real early, my off day, and thought of all the things I need to do..

I woke up at 705am, which I fell asleep yesterday after a tiring day at work at 6.30 pm.it’s now 7.58 am.

At 11pm, my father woke up up to eat dinner. Somehow, when my room door is opened for a few minutes, I would just get up. “Got cod fish.” He said. I just dragged my feet to the kitchen and ate the codfish only. A very succulent texture and really bite-worthy.

Kept thinking about the codfish while falling asleep…

Hahah.

Had a pretty weird dream. Dreamt of him and his new girlfriend (short but pretty). They sat beside me in our university. We were like supposed to listen to this last revision, then they would assess us based on the notes we made. His new girlfriend was petite, with a cute faced.  Then I was like saying in a spiteful manner, “So I’m too tall for you lar!?” LAME pls. Then I couldn’t stand their lovey-dovey, so I ran out of the class, to somewhere where things are sold like in a pasar-malam. But it’s still a school.

Then he told me something weird in the dream after we bought food from the canteen (expensive things there), he somehow wanted to talk to me. Then he told me that his sisters (he only had one duh!) didn’t like his new girlfriend, because they spotted her bringing a ghost into the house. (LAME!) Cried in the dream (not really cry, but like those shows where the female lead discovers the male lead cheating on her kind of).HAHAHAH. LAME dream lar. Dreamt that all my classmates from primary school and secondary school were all lined up waiting for the graduation in our university– wearing some blue pinafore and white shirt. But I was wearing outside clothes, so I high-fived with Minghui from my primary school….

Then I woke up. Then I keep thinking… He should have found a new girlfriend by now. Should be happy for him. :)

Beautiful sky, funnel-shaped clouds. Rays of light.

Basked in the sunlight while using my laptop.

Going out for breakfast now. And then some qt outside, then will come home, shower and do my important things. :)

This is the day that the Lord has made,

we shall rejoice and be glad in it..
