The Shepherds and the Angels

8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ[a] the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Footnotes:

  1. Luke 2:11 Or Messiah. “The Christ” (Greek) and “the Messiah” (Hebrew) both mean “the Anointed One”; also in verse 26.

The first Christmas on earth is a peaceful one. That is why it is called Silent Night and Holy night.

The shepherds who saw the angel proclaiming the birth of the Messiah(Saviour) Jesus in a manger, were astonished.

They spread the word to others, while giving praises to God.

While Mary pondered on what was said, that Jesus would be the Saviour of mankind..

Christmas makes many businessmen happy. Their sales during this period could have easily make up for the losses earlier on in the year.

Christmas is the celebration of God becoming a man for us. A glorious and almighty God humbled and willing to come to Earth as a helpless baby. To fulfill His plan for us. What are we? Only His creation, but He loved us so much and we are the reason for Christmas.

What it means

To move forward means to forget the past.

It means dropping everything useless.

Talking less and doing more.

To focus on the goal ahead and to refuse to be distracted…

Inspiring Quotes

(Hee like this video, very artistic. The guy and the girl are just not meant to be…… quite a meaningful video to be played on my birthday. ;))

Found some interesting quotes while at the library today. And I saw this book about “Anxiety”, and I realise that I have “Social anxiety” from examples like I get very uncomfortable when being closely watched by others. I read on why I have this kind of anxiety, and it is quite true. And the methods and therapy of cognitive behavioural therapy is somewhat similar of bible study, like replacing negative thoughts or untrue thoughts by God’s truth and what is true. And it is not to see others in a saintly or warm and fuzzy light, but in the realistic light…

And here are some quotes that are quite inspiring too.

Nelson Mandela’s inaugural speech:

” Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?” Actually who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us. It’s not just in some of us. It’s in everyone, and, as we let our shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

 Winston Churchhill:

” To every man there comes in his lifetime that special moment when he is figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a very special thing, unique to him and fitted to his talents. What a tragedy if that moment if that moment finds him unprepared or unqualified for the work which could be his finest hour.”

Katha Upanishad:

” Know thou the soul is riding in a chariot, the body as the chariot. Know thou the intellect as the chariot driver, and the mind as the reins.”

Leonardo da Vinci:

” When you look at a wall spotted with stains, or with a mixture of stones, if you have to devise some scene, you may discover a resemblance to various landscapes, beautified with mountains, rivers, rocks, trees, plains, wide valleys, and hills in various arrangement; or agian you may see battles and figures in action; or strange faces and costumes, and an endless variey of objects, which you could reduce to complete and well-drawn forms.”

Norman Cousins:

” The human brain is a mirror to infinity. There is no limit ot its range, scope, or capacity for creative growth.” (Imagine a human brain can invent the AI toy called 20 Q, that it can really guess what is on your mind by asking questions. Played with it today and it’s amazing.. Amazing creation– our brains and 20Q..)

Michael Michalko:

” A dead coal can be rekindled when a live coal is placed next to it.”

William Blake:

” You have only to work up imagination to the state of vision and of the thing is done.”

Vince Lombardi:

” If you aren’t fired up with enthusiasm, you’ll be fired by enthusiasm.”
