How to repair/revive a wet handphone

July 9, 2008 at 6:09 pm | In Discoveries | Leave a Comment

The other day, my handphone was in my pocket at work and due to my job nature, some fluid (won’t specify hehe) seeped into my scrubsuit, through the pocket, into my handphone. I didn’t notice it until when I picked it up, the whole LCD screen fogged up and it cannot be switched on. I tried using the hairdryer at my workplace to dry it, and managed to clear the fog, but it came back again in a while’s time. I also tried opening up the parts and drying it. But it didn’t work. I tried to switch it on again and again on my way home, but it is still dead.

So when I reached home, I wanna try something that I’ve read somewhere in a magazine or digest. And it worked! Really amazing.

Very simple.

Take a big mug, put your handphone inside and fill it with dry, uncooked rice grains. Within a few seconds, my handphone immediately revived. Really! The dry uncooked rice is really a good dessicant for many purposes. Try it next time! Of course you can no longer cook that rice that you have used, keep it in a bag for future purposes.

(Well, it’s late and I’m still waiting for my hair to dry. Not that I’m very free. hehehe.)

Walton’s mart

May 19, 2008 at 11:40 am | In Discoveries | Leave a Comment

*Always read about Wal-Mart in US magazines, but I found out that another name for Wal-Mart in Japan is Seiyu. It is the 4th largest utility or commercial employer in the world. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSEWMT) is an American public corporation that runs a chain of large, discount department stores. It is the world’s largest public corporation by revenue, according to the 2008 Fortune Global 500.[4] Founded by Sam Walton in 1962, it was incorporated on October 31, 1969, and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1972. It is the largest private employer in the world and the fourth largest utility or commercial employer, trailing the British National Health Service, and the Indian Railways. Wal-Mart is the largest grocery retailer in the United States, with an estimated 20% of the retail grocery and consumables business, as well as the largest toy seller in the U.S.

I’m quite interested in how Sam Walton started as a humble student into becoming one of the most wealthy men in the world. Praise be to God for that too…

  • Walton supported various charitable causes, including those of his church, the Presbyterian Church (USA). The Sam and Helen R. Walton Award was created in 1991 when the Waltons made a gift of six million dollars which included an endowment in the amount of three million dollars to provide annual awards to new church developments that are working in creative ways to share the Christian faith in local communities.
  • He was also the president of the rotary club.
  • Growing up during the Great Depression, Walton had numerous chores to help make financial ends meet for his family. He milked the family cow, bottled the surplus and drove it to customers. Afterwards, he would deliver newspapers on a paper route. Upon graduating, he was voted “Most Versatile Boy.”

After high school, Walton decided to attend college, hoping to find a better way to help support his family. He attended the University of Missouri and majored in economics and was an ROTC officer. During this time, he worked various odd jobs, including waiting tables in exchange for meals. Also during his time in college, Walton joined the estimable Zeta Phi chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was also tapped by QEBH, the well-known secret society on campus honoring the top senior men. Upon graduating, he was voted “permanent president” of the class. He was also a member of the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi.

Walton joined JCPenney as a management trainee in Des Moines, Iowa three days after graduating from college. This position earned him $75 a month. He resigned in 1942 in anticipation of being inducted into the military for service in World War II. In the meantime, he worked at a DuPont munitions plant near Tulsa, Oklahoma. There he met his future wife, Helen Robson, in April 1942. She and Sam were married February 14, 1943.

Soon afterwards, Walton joined the military in the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps, supervising security at aircraft plants and prisoner of war camps. In this position he served in the continental United States. He eventually reached the rank of Captain.

    [edit] The first stores

In 1945, after leaving the military, Walton decided he wanted to own a department store but would settle for a variety store. With some help from his father-in-law with a loan of $20,000, plus $5000 he had saved from his time in the Army, Walton purchased a Ben Franklin variety store in Newport, Arkansas. The store was a franchise of the Butler Brothers chain.

It was here that Walton pioneered many concepts that would prove to be crucial to his success. Walton made sure the shelves were consistently stocked with a wide range of goods at low prices. His store also stayed open later than most other stores, especially during the Christmas season. He also pioneered the practice of discount merchandising by buying wholesale goods from the lowest priced supplier. This allowed him to pass on savings to his customers, which drove up his sales volume. Higher volumes allowed him to negotiate even lower purchase prices with the wholesaler on subsequent purchases. Walton’s store led in sales and profits in the Butler Brothers’ six-state region. One factor that made this store successful was its central location, making it accessible to a wide range of customers. In an attempt to limit the expansion of his main competitor, the Sterling Store, Walton leased a nearby Kroger store and opened it in 1950 as the “Eagle” department store, but it didn’t fare as well.

Due to the variety store’s enormous success, the landlord, P. K. Holmes, refused to renew the lease when it expired, desiring to pass the store onto his son. The lack of a renewal option, together with the outrageous rent of 5% of sales, were early business lessons to Walton. Despite forcing Walton out, Holmes bought the store’s inventory and fixtures for $50,000, which Walton called “a fair price.”

What am I doing here in Singapore. Wished I could help them practically.

    China. 12000 dead… and counting…

    Myanmar. 100000 dead…and counting..

    The day is nearing.

    Keep them in prayer…..

Zhifang emailed me telling me she’s going over to help the area, and that the tremors are non-stop over there. She says the possibility of the high hill collapsing onto the city is very great. She’ll be going over for 1-2 months. Worried for her safety. Hope I’ll get to hear from her again.

    Nice Poem

Below is a poem from one of my sis’ friends, James. Find it easy to relate to..

    ———————————————————————-

    The Sinner’s Journal V

It’s a war we are in,
    A war that’s ending soon.
It’s a war we are winning,
For the enemy’s heading for their doom.
However the enemy knows how to counter,
How to counter this winning side of ours.
    By bringing in disputes,
    By bringing in quarrels.
Slowly isolating the warriors of God,
    Bringing them to their knees.
    I was worried,
    And I could not rest.
So where ever would I be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly being disturbed?

    Past temptations were back,
    Under constant attack by them.
    Like flaming arrows,
Falling from the sky and striking us in the heart.
    We needed God,
For even the strongest couldn’t survive.
    The enemy was constantly attacking,
    Not giving up.
Looking out for a weak spot,
To penetrate into the hearts of the weak.
    I was worried,
    And I could not rest.
So where ever would I be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly being disturbed?

    God had moved recently,
    Touching more lives,
    Saving more souls.
    And of course,
The devil would not just stand around watching,
    Of course,
    He would do something,
Something to disrupt the move of God.
    Of course,
He would mislead the younger generation.
    I was worried,
    And I could not rest.
So where ever would I be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly being disturbed?

    But God hears our call,
And protects those who call upon Him.
Covered by the blood of His,
    We continue to fight.
    Yet,
    There are those lost sheep.
Wandering off into the dangerous pastures,
    Away from the shepherd.
    Some would come back,
    And some lost forever.
    I was worried,
    And I could not rest.
So where ever would I be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly being disturbed?

    The days have become weary,
    Tiring and lifeless.
    The end seems so near,
    The signs seem so clear.
    Life has became a drag,
    Suicide comes into mind.
    Life becomes tiresome,
    Eternal sleep comes into mind.
    It was a tough struggle,
But it was going to be worth it.
    I was worried,
    And I could not rest.
So where ever would I be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly being disturbed?

The sky no longer seemed blue,
    The sun feels so cold.
It was not what it used to be,
A world filled with joy and laughter,
Became a world bitter and cold.
    The birds no longer chirp,
And the children no longer play.
    For the demons were attacking,
    For all night,
    And all day.
    I was worried,
    And I could not rest.
So where ever would I be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly being disturbed?

    People still worshipped Him,
But it was not like before.
The music somehow died along the way,
And now it becomes a bore.
    But continually God refreshes,
    And satisfies.
The hungry souls that long for Him,
And the tired souls that search for Him.
    We were winning,
    But we were complacent.
    I was worried,
    And I could not rest.
So where ever would I be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly being disturbed?

    Hearts were broken,
    Lives were lost.
    Pressure sets in,
    And stress grows as well.
    The demons were prevailing,
And it seemed we were losing.
    But God intervened,
    And gave a helping hand.
    Setting us on our feet,
And back we were in this fight.
    I was worried,
    And I could not rest.
So where ever would I be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly being disturbed?

The finish line could be seen,
    So close yet so far.
    With accusers attacking,
    With insults, lies,
    With false accusation.
    It was discouraging.
    It was painful.
It was hard to carry on.
    But God was there,
    Relieving our burdens.
    I was worried,
    And I could not rest.
So where ever would I be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly being disturbed?

I had to find rest somehow,
    For I grew weary.
    Sleep was not helping,
And so I left it out.
    I could not sleep,
    Nor stay awake.
    I could do neither,
And so death came into mind.
    There was no difference,
For no one noticed my existence.
    I was worried,
    And I could not rest.
So where ever would I be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly being disturbed?

    But God slapped me,
    Across the face.
    Waking me up,
    Big time.
Where was I about to go?
    Hell.
    I nearly wasted His death,
    On the cross.
    He was there,
    But I missed Him.
    I was relieved,
    Yet I could not rest.
So where ever would I be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly being disturbed?

    So here I am,
    Running this race.
    A dangerous race,
    With traps every corner.
    A race of life,
That few people make out alive.
    But I had God,
    I was confident.
    That I would live,
    And not die.
    I was relieved,
    Yet I could not rest.
So where ever would I be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly being disturbed?

    My stamina depleted,
    And I was weak.
    But God provided shelter,
    He provided rest.
    Finally,
    I could sleep,
    In peace,
    Without disturbance.
    He watched over me,
    And protected me.
    I was relieved,
    And I could finally rest.
So where ever would I not be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly protected?

    God provides,
    He loves.
    He refreshes my empty soul,
And sets me on my feet.
The road was long and dangerous,
    Yet I wasn’t scared.
    God was with me,
    Who could be against me?
So I carried on my journey,
    My journey to Home.
    I was happy,
    For God was with me.
So where ever would I not be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly protected?

    The year had just started,
    Yet troubles had appeared already.
    But nothing could stop us,
    From getting home.
    Nothing could end us,
    For He protected us.
    Nothing could distract us,
For He was in our eyes.
    Nothing was against us,
    For he was with us.
    I was elated,
    For home drew near.
So where ever would I not be able to find rest then,
When my place of rest is constantly protected?

Sure the road may seem long,
    But we were well-rested.
Sure the road may seem dangerous,
    But we were protected.
    Sure the road seemed intimidating,
    But we were not afraid.
Sure the devil might be against us,
    But God was with us.
    Forever He shall be,
    Forever He will be.
    So I was safe,
For He carried me in His hands,
    And kept me safe,
    Out of harm’s way.
So I know I would be able to rest,
For my place of rest was protected.

    I know I was safe,
And my place of rest was protected.
    For I’m with Him,
    What about you?

    Raised from the dead

    Luke 16:19-31

[19] “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. [20] At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores [21] and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

[22] “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. [23] In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. [24] So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

[25] “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. [26] And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

[27] “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father’s house, [28] for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

[29] “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’

[30] ” ‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

[31] “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’ “

    ————————————————————————————-

“Did the rich man go to hell because he was rich? NO!

Did the poor man go to heaven because he was poor? NO!

The rich man did not go to hell because he was rich, and the poor man did not go to heaven because he was poor.

The rich man was in his palace on the day he died, and the poor man was outside the palace on the streets on that day he died.

The rich man closed his eyes when he was in his palace, and the next moment when he opened his eyes, he was in hell.

The poor man closed his eyes when he was on the streets, and the next moment when he opened his eyes, he was in paradise, in heaven.

The rich man had in his lifetime heard about Jesus, but he did not believe in him for saving him from his sins. He said no to Jesus…”

Dear friends.. I have been watching this vcd called Raised from the dead given by uncle Chris.  It was about this African pastor called Daniel who died in a car accident (Mercedes) while on the way home to bring some Chrismas presents (rice). He was brought to a hospital and was being resuscitated when he wanted to be brought to his own doctor in another hospital. ( That doctor helped him last time when he was seriously injured). So he told his wife to bring him there by ambulance. Along the way, he felt his breathing worsened. And he was afraid that something might happen so he called his wife, but along the way in the ambulance, he passed away. The doctor who took him at the hospital found no respiration, no heartbeat, dilated and fixed pupils. So he wrote for him ,” Brought in dead……” He was then brought to the mortuary, and the mortuary people took him noticing that he was really dead, embalmed him. He was left there for 3 days. Then, on Sunday service, the pastor’s wife brought the coffin into the church but was faced with lots of disagreements. She had faith that her husband can be brought back to life. ….. During the service, the pastor Reinhard Bonnke was preaching and suddenly someone shouted something like ” A dead man became alive!”……..

You have to watch it to see for yourselves. It is an evangelistic documentary, because the people involved with the “dead body” were interviewed and their accounts taken. And the pastor Daniel who rose from the dead also gave his account and amazing testimony of what he saw when he was in the ambulance……

Here below are the words of pastor Reinhard Bonnke, which has touched me when I was watching it. I decided to type it our and put it here. I pray that God too, will work in your heart and change any disbelief as he had worked in me. :)

    From Pastor Reinhard Bonnke:

“…the horrible mistake he himself had made. My friend, do not make the same mistake as the rich man and disregard the word of God, I am pleading with you. You have seen a sign from heaven, but its function is to lead you to the living Savior and Lover of your soul– Jesus Christ, He is the one who shed his blood for you. And the word of God says, “ Whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” That name is the name of Jesus. I am inviting you to take this vital step this very moment. If I could I would want to put my arm around you, and lead you to this wonderful, wonderful and only savior from sin and hell– Jesus Christ. Let’s call upon his name this moment. And then, that very second, something happens inside of you as it also happened inside of me because Jesus Christ enters your life.

Just repeat this prayer after me, but from the bottom of your heart, and with trust and commitment. And heaven will not be silent, there will come the reply.

Shall we pray? Let’s pray and repeat these words after me.

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I have heard your word and respond to your invitation. I say yes to Jesus, I say yes to salvation. And I say no to sin and Satan. I repent of my sin, I commit my life to you. I believe with my heart what I now speak with my mouth… that I am a child of God and Jesus Christ is my Savior. I am born again. I believe it and I receive it. And I thank you for it.

In the name of Jesus, amen.

Accept it, appropriate it by faith that you are now a child of God and that you are as of this moment, on your way to heaven.

    God bless you.”

    Pastor Reinhard Bonnke

“Jesus does not call us because of what we are, but because of what he makes from us. Jesus shows ordinary people, people like me, and people like you.”— Pastor Reinhard Bonnke. He had seen over 1 million people in a day through his preaching, being brought into the kingdom of God.

    Incredible talent

This guy here has autism, but he is soooo talented! Watch and you will see..The human brain is too amazing for the evolution theory.

Wow, he just reminds me of Michael Scoffield from Prison Break, except that he is real!

If I can choose, I would choose to have his gift, rather than being able to speak eloquently.. But of course, he would have his own problems caused by autism too. Everyone has a gift or a talent in a way or another… But what matters most is how we use it and what we use it on….

I Corinthian 1:26-30 (NIV) says “Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things — and the things that are not — to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him. It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God — that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption”

    Psalm 139:

    13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

     14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
           your works are wonderful,
           I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
           were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

17 How precious to [b] me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!

18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
           When I awake,
           I am still with you.

    The Bacterial Flagellum
    (high-definition animation) http://www.arn.org/docs/mm/flagellum_all.htm

    http://www.arn.org/docs/mm/flagellum_all.htm

A motor boat of sorts, the Bacterial Flagellum requires over 50 different, separate protein parts for operation.

The bacterial flagellum is an example of what Michael Behe describes as an irreducibly complex system. In his book, Darwin’s Black Box, he explains that such irreducibly complex systems could not have arisen by a gradual step-by-step Darwinian process.

Behe summarizes the structure of the bacterial flagellum in these terms:

Some bacteria boast a marvelous swimming device, the flagellum, which has no counterpart in more complex cells. In 1973 it was discovered that some bacteria swim by rotating their flagella. So the bacterial flagellum acts as a rotary propellor — in contrast to the cilium, which acts more like an oar.

The structure of a flagellum is quite different from that of a cilium. The flagellum is a long, hairlike filament embedded in the cell membrane. The external filament consists of a single type of protein, called “flagellin.” The flagellin filament is the paddle surface that contacts the the liquid during swimming. At the end of the flagellin filament near the surface of the cell, there is a bulge in the thickness of the flagellum. It is here that the filament attaches to the rotor drive. The attachment material is comprised of something called “hook protein.” The filament of a bacterial flagellum, unlike a cilium, contains no motor protein; if it is broken off, the filament just floats stiffly in the water. Therefore the motor that rotates the filament-propellor must be located somewhere else. Experiments have demonstrated that it is located at the base of the flagellum, where electron microscopy shows several ring structures occur. The rotary nature of the flagellum has clear, unavoidable consequences … (pp. 70-72)”

Praise the Lord for His great and awesome wisdom, even for such a small nano creature, he has inserted His intelligent design. How much more us. Our souls have an eternal destiny…. :)

Things like this, make me smile at His power..

MOST amazing thing that I have learned from this is that this flagellum, like all living things, doesn’t need a battery to work. But by biochemical processes, which I think, is way more complicated than electricity.
