Beautiful song from Sarah Brightman–Scene d amour. Heard it while typing this entry.. Sarah looks celtic and perhaps she has gypsies ancestors? :p I wish I can dance ballet, but too bad after not grabbing the opportunity in Primary 1. haha

As I get older, my perception of relationships (romantic kind) changes as the relationships of people around me change. Around me, there are divorces and break ups of those “golden couples”, I can say that I am too an unfortunate person in that category, or used to be. Thus, sometimes hearing such news can produce a knee-jerk effect on someone who has known both parties or either one of them. However, after a while, the feeling goes away, leaving you thinking about the so-called “love” that had even existed, is so unreliable and surreal.

As you get older, the priorities and dreams change too.  For example, people who used to dream of this fairy-tale happily ever after wedding, may now dream of a bigger purpose in life. Or those who used to cherish freedom may now want to settle down.

Any way, to me, my focus has somehow changed too. Being more detached is good in a way as nothing can really last forever. At least I still hold on to the belief that any human is unpredictable. Love changes. Heart, feelings, thoughts, dreams all change. Sometimes over years, sometimes over a fortnight.

I know that things around me do affect me because I do know the pain they may be going through, knowing someone that you cared is hurting has an impact that can change your thinking.

In this world that is ever-changing, with shades of grey and indeterminates, there is still an absolute I need to hold on to.

God brings meaning to life. He is the Only One who will never change, the constant, the alpha, the omega. His loves endures forever. I’m glad to be His child even though I’m “disobedient” at times, I know He is the one that I can truly count on for eternity. :)

I think that’s all that matters.

HAHAHAH

I was waiting for my hair to dry before sleeping, and I looked through my older posts.

How I talked about certain things and the way I phrased them is like weird! Like funny and childish… looking back…

Well.. I don’t really blog about interesting things in my life, like where I’ve been, who I’ve gone out with and what we do…

It’s mostly of thoughts that were important to me at that time, perhaps just an outlet…So looking back… it’s just like a lot of things being blooped out (activities, happenings, friends…)

Looking back too.. I saw that I worried too much of making wrong decisions… but when I let go and obeyed God…. and here I am…. happy as ever….. better than ever…… better than then.

Well…… For my blog… I don’t intend to put in too much personal things thus my blog tends to be a little “boring”… all for the sake of protecting ppl and myself in this Internet world… lol.. here i go again. I don’t feel safe on Facebook, I don’t feel safe on Friendster…….. that’s why I quitted too…. but am I too paranoid?

Busy days ahead….. better get recharged..

I think that spending time with people you care about is really a luxury. :) nites!

Any ideas ?

Jesus’ battle with Temptation– Things I have learnt

April 25, 2008 at 6:03 am | In Bible study | Leave a Comment

*I’m reading a bible study book on the Gospel of Luke written by William Barclay. It has shown me some insights on this well-known part of Jesus’ life. It has shown me somethings that reach rather deep down… Hope I’ll learn from it and apply it into my life…*

Background:

Luke 4 (New International Version)

The Temptation of Jesus

1Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, 2where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

3The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”

4Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone.’[a]

5The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7So if you worship me, it will all be yours.”

8Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’[b]

9The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. 10For it is written:
” ‘He will command his angels concerning you
      to guard you carefully;
11they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]

12Jesus answered, “It says: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]

13When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.

————————————————————————————-

  • The whole point of the temptations is that they could have come only to a man who could do astonishing things. It is no temptation to us to turn stones into bread or leap from a Temple pinnacle, for the simple reason that it is impossible for us to do such things. These are temptations which could have only come to a man whose powers were unique and who had to decide how to use them.
  • First of all the wilderness—- inhabited part of Judaea which stood on the central plateau which was the backbone of Southern Palestine. Between it and the Dead Sea stretched a terrible wilderness, thirty-five by fifteen miles, called Jeshimmon (”The Devastation”). Hills were like dust heaps, limestones looked blistered and peeling, rocks bare and jagged, ground sounded hollow to the horses’ hooves, glowed with heat like a vast furnace and ran out to the precipcies, 1200 feet high which swooped down to the Dead Sea. It was in that awesome devastation that Jesus was tempted.
  • We must not think that the 3 temptations came and went like scenes in a play. We must rather think of Jesus deliberately retiring to this lonely place and for forty days of wrestling with the problem of how he could win men. It was a long battle which never eased until the cross and the story ends by saying the tempter left Jesus —for a season.
  1. The first temptation is to turn stones into bread.  The wilderness was not a wilderness of sand. It was covered by little bits of limestones exactly like loaves. The tempter was suggesting that Jesus should use his wonderful powers to give people material things if he want people to follow him.  Jesus reply also means that a man will never find life in material things.
  2. The second temptation is the temptation to compromise. The devil is like saying, ” I have got people in my grip, don’t set your standards so high, strike a bargain with me, compromise a little with evil and men will follow  you. ” But Jesus’ answer seems to say, ” God is God, right is right, wrong is wrong. There can be no compromise on the war with evil.” My favorite verse from this passage is said by Jesus to the devil, “ Worship the Lord your God and serve him only“ .He quotes scripture Deuteronomy 6:13, 10:20. I questioned myself the purpose of what I’m doing and why I’m doing it—- is it for a show of personal glory or fame or to serve God….     It is a constant temptation to win men by compromising with the standards of the world. The Christian must be convicted of the infinite beauty of holiness and the infinite ugliness of sin.
  3. The third temptation is to give the people sensations.  Jesus seems to be saying, “No, you must not make senseless experiments with the power of God.”  This is my favorite part: Jesus saw quite clearly that if he produced sensations he could be a nine days’ wonder; but he also saw that sensationalism will not last

The main point:

The temptation incident shows us Jesus choosing once and for all the method by which he proposed to win men to God. It shows him rejecting the way of power and glory and accepting the way of suffering and the cross. The hard way of service and of suffering leads to the cross, but after the cross to the crown.

Even Jesus my Lord did not go through the easy way to win men, even though he could have easily. But he stuck to the truth behind it all and showed us what really matters. It gives comfort to the poor people or people with little power. In this world where material gain is highly emphasized, this passage reminds me that a person cannot find life in his wealth (even though wealth is not a bad thing), that a person needs to be humble before God and to place Him as He deserves in his/her life. It also shows me that whatever I’m doing now for others need to come from a motive of serving them ( serving God in that way), and not for my own personal glory or benefit. It will not be easy… It takes suffering and hard work. But no short cut for that….

Let God’s words nourish your soul today,

instead of food, money, or other material things…

for it will truly satisfy,

guide,

and help you to see more clearly

the purpose of your existence…

Just love this song..

Are we at war tonight
Will there be angels
whispering to me good night
Don’t wake when lightning strikes

My heart for you is true
Let no one take that from you
Time is running tight
Can’t change from wrong to right

So I’ll close my eyes and dream a little
Just like how we used to be baby

It’s time to say farewell
No need to cry of feelings
Oh it’s alright
All in the book of life

Heaven grant me one last wish I beg you
Let me say these words before I go

[ Chorus: ]
I will love you till the end of time
Every breath of mine
I’ll hold you by my side
But I’ll rest in peace
My sweetheart would you
Let me die in your arms with you

Only you can stop the rain tonight
Only you can change my world
from black to white
So I’ll close my eyes and
dream a little more

Only you can stop the rain tonight
Only you can get me strength to fight
Till the sky is burning
It’s the end of time

Look ahead tomorrow
Long and winding road

Keep the faith of mine
Don’t let it go
You’re the only reason
That I’m growing cold
What would I do
Without you

[ Chorus: ]
I will love you till the end of time
Every breath of mine
I’ll hold you by my side
But I’ll rest in peace
My sweetheart would you
Let me die in your arms with you

Only you can stop the rain tonight
Only you can make my world so bright
Life no longer ends here
with you in my heart

In my heart…

Does these songs sound similar? Differences in a few octaves/flats?

Remember that piano
So delightful unusual
That classic sensation
Sentimental confusion

BRIDGE:
Used to say
I like Chopin
Love me now and again

CHORUS:
Rainy days never say goodbye
To desire when we are together
Rainy days growing in your eyes
Tell me where’s my way

Imagine your face
In a sunshine reflection
A vision of blue skies
Forever distractions

BRIDGE.

CHORUS.

Play these two together: Truly madly deeply and jian dan ai. Play truly madly when jian dan ai is at 0.19..

How could I not share this?

Really thank God for what He has done recently for my family. It’s just amazing.

1. Valuation of house– exceeded our expectations!

2. Buyers are quite serious

3. Something happened quite bad…. and the next day.. my father and bro are like buddies (never before like that), suddenly they have such a camaderie… which made me and my sister astonished. We both prayed the night before..

4. Father’s illness recovered quickly from something bad.

5. Brother’s __________something bad happened to his laptop too (smashed) , but we prayed for the repair to be the least expensive… and in the end it’s free! (We were initially told there’s no warranty.)

6. Bro kena something bad….. went to hospital… costs were minimized, no complications, recovered totally.

7. Father’s mood better and more cheerful

All these we have prayed for…..

And it’s all answered….

Sometimes after praying for their salvation for so long, we may wonder like….. Does God ever listen to my prayer?

He does!

He is so real you will freak out seriously. Sometimes we need to wait for the right time in his will for other things that we prayed for. But hey, if He has heard your prayer, He will respond to it, either yes, or no, if no, something better. The thing to be sure here is that: He hears everything. He is Omnipresent, Omnipotent, All knowing. Nothing is too hard for HIm. He doesn’t only hear, He knows every thought good and bad in your mind and heart.

Recently these things showed me that God is very real. And I cannot ignore the miracles he has done.

Prayed hard for my presentation, and I did well and got very good comments.

He had helped us, has helped us, is helping us, will help us, will always help us and will help us forever.

All he seeks is a heart that is honestly after him…. I’m still learning how to…

You can never be sure of stocks, of the inflation or a country’s security, even people who loved you deeply, may stop loving you one day.

But be sure of this: God never changes. His love endures forever. He is the constant. Bet your life only on Him and Him alone. You will never regret. You will only wish you have done it sooner.

Can good service and efficiency ever truly co-exist?

April 21, 2008 at 8:22 pm | In Thoughts | Leave a Comment

Had an eventful day– work–> nlb–>school–>supper–>–eventful night–>a & e

Now it’s 4 am and i’m finally home and waiting for my hair to dry.

Observed a lot of things at the “nightspot” with someone which made me reflect a bit on the way things are done. However, I have more things to say regarding the waiting time but shan’t comment much due to sensitivity. I do know how to get the waiting time shortened just now, as it’s really needed, not faking at all.

It’s just like the old days, me sleeping on the sleeper unit while he slept on the bed, and me studying for my geog test on foolscap paper..But now, I’m “sleeping” on those flexible-back chairs, while trying to do my work on my laptop. Times have changed huh.

Below are just my own views, no representations or whatever nots intended on whosoever’s behalf.

To those who are working, what’s most important to them is : 1. Efficiency 2. Professionalism 3. Effectiveness

To those who are waiting for the service, what’s most important to them is 1. Needs being met 2. Problem to be solved 3. Good explanation and patience.

As you can see, there is some conflict of interest discussed here. Sometimes, it’s hard to meet the both parties’ expectations.

But truly, I believe, a customer doesn’t care how professional/efficient/effective unless you are able to meet his/her needs as urgent or as immediate as he/she requires it. In other words, they don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care. Customers don’t really bother about rules, as their needs are so important to them at that time. Inflexibility due to regulations created initially to benefit customers end up frustrating the customers. At this point of time, the staff should have discretion and bend the rules a bit (or close one eye), but as it permits—This will only occur, when the staff shift his/her focus on the staff’s current needs to the customer’s current needs. Sacrifice is inevitable on the staff part, reports may be done later, need to stay back a while longer to finish stuff— But through this way, good service can then be provided and the customer can be satisfied.

And when approached by a customer regarding anything or any question, it is extremely important to focus on the person infront of you. Forget about the report you are passing, or that information you are doing on the computer, because that person needs your explanation, assurance and real patience and understanding. If you just try to say something to brush off the customer, the customer will only get disatisfaction and end up suffering more with more doubts and unanswered questions which will lead to worries.

It will be worse when a customer loses patience, and the staff scolds the customer instead (like “suan” him/her). This will greatly hurt the customer, and make him/her lose faith in the whole organisation, even everyone else.

Patience, sincerity, a sense of urgency, and seeing the overall picture to take critical important decisions for the customer is highly valued by the customer.

Professionalism is just the surface outward appearance, what is most important is the heart behind it.
